Microcement in Calgary

Skinner Painting offers hand-applied microcement finishes in Calgary, creating continuous surfaces with subtle texture, natural colour variation and a clean, minimalist feel.

What is microcement?

Microcement is a decorative, cement-based coating applied in thin layers over carefully prepared surfaces. It creates a seamless, monolithic appearance, bringing the look of concrete to everything from bathroom walls to kitchen backsplashes.

With the appropriate system and protective finish, microcement can be used for showers, bathrooms, floors, shelves, countertops and backsplashes. Its continuous surface offers an alternative to tile, without the grid of grout lines to scrub.

A thin finish with plenty of character

Microcement typically combines cement, fine mineral aggregates, pigments and polymers. The installation can include primers, reinforcing mesh, base coats, decorative layers and protective sealers, depending on the surface and its intended use.

The finished coating is generally only a few millimetres thick, adding very little bulk. Suitable existing surfaces can sometimes be coated, making microcement an appealing option for Calgary home renovations.

In showers and other wet areas, proper waterproofing beneath the finish and the specified protective coatings are essential.
